Hand painted antique Nippon art nouveau twin vases with landscape scene, circa 1910. Sold as a pair (set of 2).

'Nippon' marked on porcelain indicates it was made in Japan for export to the western market between 1891 and 1921. This pair of vases utilises the moriage technique, which refers to the raised slip decorations seen on the vase. The vase features a landscape scene within an oval frame, showcasing buildings, trees, and a body of water, with moriage detailing around the edges and handles. The colour palette includes pastel tints of purples, blues and gold, typical of the Art Nouveau style.

The vases have a sprayed blue circle effect, applied prior to the hand applied moriage work. The rims are a moulded beadwork design.
Heavy gold ornamental embellishments with elaborate gold borders and handles to the fronts.

Manufacturer mark to base as pictured. In very good condition, with some wear to the gold elements and one surface scratch to the rear of one vase (pictured).

Each measures approx. 325mm (H) x 175mm (W, including handles)
120mm diameter base, tapering to 95mm top
