Ellis Studio Large Oval Platter with MCM abstract design
A large studio pottery platter by Ellis Ceramics, made in Australia, c.1960s.
This mid century style features an abstract coloured stroke and sgraffito pattern. A balanced piece that combines soft stoneware tones with hand-applied colour detailing, creating a refined statement suitable for both display and use.
Hand thrown and artist decorated, the platter is signed to base with pattern number 219, confirming studio production. It's generous size makes it ideal as a centrepiece, serving platter or as decorative ceramic art on a console or shelf.
A rare and highly collectible example of Australian studio pottery with strong mid-century appeal. Perfect for collectors or anyone seeking a distinctive vintage statement piece.
In overall excellent vintage condition, with one very small glaze nib to rim (approx. 4mm, pictured), consistent with age and use. There is also a small hole in the glaze from firing (pictured), this is not considered a fault.
Ellis Ceramics was an Australian pottery studio established by a Czechoslovakian couple, Dasa and Milda Kratochvil, in 1953. Pieces such as this platter are hand decorated or carved, which makes each piece unique.
