A collectible Royal Doulton Character Jug 'Auld Mac', made in England.

Modelled on a fictional character from a song by Sir Henry Lauder. The song told of Auld Mac who, every time he made a move, "bang went saxpence", which referred to the high prices of London. This is incised to the rear of the jug. Designed by Harry Fenton and introduced in 1937. 

Number D5823.

Royal Doulton produced character jugs for more than six decades, and examples such as these remain highly regarded by collectors. 

Suitable for decorative display, or to be enjoyed as part of a vintage table setting.
