Mabel Hawkins original painting on timber panel c.1950's

This is an original work of art by Australian artist Mabel Hawkins, active from 1944 - 1959.

This is a lovely small painting of a countryside scene with river in the foreground and 2 cows grazing. A lovely piece of rural Australia captured in a timeless moment. In excellent vintage condition, with some minor age-appropriate wear to front as it is painted directly on to the solid round timber panel, as opposed to being framed behind glass for all these years.

A beautiful piece for any collector of original works and/or Australian artists, it is ready to hang with stapled string to the rear as shown. It was painted sometime during the period of the 1940's - 1950's, signed to bottom left.

Mabel Hawkins exhibited her paintings 13 times up until 1959 and was a member of the Contemporary Art Society. She was known for her nostalgic, folk-style depictions of Australian country life, and this piece is a wonderful example. Very few originals become available to purchase.
