A beautiful rare Australian pottery piece by Jill Byrne (Evans) in the form of a large jug or pitcher with small finger handle.
This Australian studio pottery jug is a wonderful example of the work of Jill Byrne in clay, with interesting and attractive colour changes thoughout the piece. Beautiful glazed finish, heavy and sturdy weighing approx 1.4kg.
In wonderful condition with one small chip to the top rim as pictured, a very collectible Australian pottery piece.
Measure approx. 230mm (H) x 150mm diameter
Jill Byrne (1935- ) has an entry in Geoff Ford's Encyclopaedia of Australian Potters' Marks under Jill Evans. In the early to late 1950s, she signed her work with an incised or painted 'Jill E.' Later work is incised or painted 'Jill Byrne', presumably her married name. She opened her own studio in Ivanhoe sometime during the 1970s.
