Sanyei 'Calico Village' by David Devir lidded casserole dish
This is a pretty and unique lidded casserole dish by Sanyei NY, made in Japan. It features a village scene by David Davir, with his signature marked on the bottom of the circular art. Beautiful quality ovenproof dish.
A pretty country appeal, with the quality expected from Japan ceramics. The handles and lid are finished with delicate brown painted edges.
Kyoei Shokai was established in Osaka in 1946, just after WWII, as an exporter of accessories to Europe and North America. In 1961, three companies, each dealing in products intimately tied to its respective regional base, i.e. ceramics in Nagoya, and gifts in Tokyo, merged to establish Sanyei Boeki (The company changed its name to Sanyei Corporation in 1971).
This lidded casserole dish is in excellent vintage condition. Oven to table, dishwasher safe, however I always prefer to recommend hand washing of collectible and vintage pieces to ensure longevity with the design elements (art).
